Two hundred years ago, humans and Pokémon lived together in peace and harmony. They worked together as teams. They befriended one another and even fought side-by-side. They worked as one to complete tasks that neither species could do alone. Nobody ever thought this era of serenity would end…
They were wrong.
On a series of remote islands, a company called Organization X used their laboratories for a massive project. Their goal was to genetically alter Pokémon; to create strong mutations that would easily overpower any common Pokémon. Some of the simple experiments seemed easy; such as increasing size or speed. Others –and most definitely the deadliest of them all- strived for more; such as bonding two completely different Pokémon and attempting to fuse them together.
The beginning attempts for these experiments were pure chaos. Pokemon constantly died from overdose of steroids. They were not sedated during the tests, either, and endured inhuman amounts of pain. All of these poor creatures being used looked mutilated; covered in needle pricks or open wounds where the scientists had amputated their limbs and attempted to paste them on another Pokémon’s body. It was unbelievably harsh and cruel; causing numbers of the living to drop dramatically each day.
The remainder of the Pokémon who had not yet died or been experimented on –though they were cramped in small, blood-stained cages- were outraged by this, and decided that humans were evil, ruthless beings. So, they planned an uprising. Not just to kill the scientists…but to destroy every single trace of human life on the planet.
All of the living Pokémon in the laboratories agreed to this, though they knew that their numbers were not nearly high enough to take down the human race. They would need recruits…and for that, they needed a plan.
Somehow, after multiple attempts, they managed to sneak two avian Pokémon out of the laboratory. They flew for miles until they reached solid land; their mission to gain as many recruits as possible after sharing their stories with anybody’s paths they crossed.
Twenty years passed…
The experiments had slowly grown successful. The scientists had given up on the idea of fusion, though they had nearly perfected other experiments. They made Pokémon much larger in size, much faster, and much more aggressive. This, of course, only spurred more hatred towards humans. They were turning sweet Pokémon into bloodthirsty war machines. Built for combat and combat alone, these Pokémon were no longer companions; they were tools to be used for the humans’ needs. Still, they waited for the return of the army their messengers had gathered.
Then the day arrived. A Pokémon messenger arrived at the laboratory, sending word from the outside that a massive army of thousands had been formed against the humans and was waiting for them on land. All the remaining hundreds still trapped in the secret facility had to escape and find a way to join their recruits. This was not difficult, since they had all been drastically altered in size, speed, and temperament. So, they retaliated. It was a day of bloodshed. They brutally murdered every single scientist in the laboratory before they could get word out about the attack. The Pokémon had the upper hand already. They had the element of surprise. And they had outrageous numbers on their side.
The survivors of Organization Xs’ laboratory returned to an army of thousands. Pokemon of all shapes and sizes greeted them enthusiastically; all of them eager to put an end to the cruel humans. This group of human haters soon became known as The Sanctum.
The Sanctum attacked the largest city they could find, killing thousands easily. The battle is still well known, called “The Day of Ruin”. It was a day of destruction and murder. The streets were slick with blood and littered with human corpses…and, of course, the cadavers of the Pokémon that had attempted to protect their masters also tainted the roads. Some Pokémon were permitted to live or had escaped, sending word around as quickly as possible to all that had trainers so they could prepare for the war that would soon rage.
The Pokémon that fought for the protection of humans became known as the Guardians. They battled alongside their partners until death, never leaving their side or fleeing. They were brave souls, indeed.
The war lasted for 100 years. The Sanctum was victorious. Having killed every human in existence, they soon retreated into their own territory and ended their reign of terror. The Guardians, very wounded and distressed from their loss of friends and partners, also retreated into their own territories to rebuild their numbers.
Sixty years of peace followed the war, bringing us to current day…
Many from the war have passed on, though some remain. However, a new conflict has risen. Numbers have sharply inclined, and inhabitable territory is slipping away. The Sanctum has decided it’s time to claim more of the region and rule the world that is rightfully theirs. The Guardians must stop them.
Two sides: one for the greater good and one who wants to destroy the peace.
What side are you on?
